It is a great pleasure for us to introduce this working conference, organised by IFIP Working Groups 8.5 (Information Systems in Public Administration) and 9.6 (IT Misuse and the Law), together with the Department of Computer & Systems Sciences (DSV) at Stockholm University / Royal Institute of Technology.
The working conference will be held in Stockholm 14-15 June 1999.

Global Networks are increasingly evolving and lead to new forms of business configurations, of Global Electronic Commerce and of organisation of public services. However, in order to make good use of the opportunities offered by the new Global Information Infrastructure (GII), a secure and trustworthy environment is needed, which takes also into account social and legal values. The working conference will focus on legal, social, technical and organisational aspects of information infrastructures and of new applications particularly in the area of Electronic Commerce and Public Administration. It aims at analysing how to prevent emerging threats to IT systems security, risks to people, organisations and society as a whole.

We invite you to contribute to our activities by submitting papers for presentation at our first joint working conference, which will be held at the Department of Computer and System Sciences (DSV) at Stockholm University / Royal Institute of Technology.
The relevant topics are listed in the section above. We especially welcome the submission of general papers discussing these topics or application-oriented papers focusing on problems and possible solutions for the application areas Public Administration, Electronic Commerce or other areas.
Authors are requested to submit either an extended abstract (4-5 pages) or a full paper (up to 15 pages). Each paper must have an abstract and a list of keywords. Papers or extended abstracts must be written and presented in English and should be sent to:

The Site
The conference is held in Electrum, in Kista Science Park, where the department of Computer and Systems Sciences (Stockholm University / Royal institue of Technology) is located.
Location
The Electrum building, Kista (10 km north of Stockholm). The address is Electrum-DSV-Annex Building, Isafjordsgatan 30c (See separate map if you arrive by car).
Public Transportation
Take the underground line which goes from Kungsträdgården to Akalla, and get off at Kista Centrum station. The trains depart every 10 minutes, even more frequently during rush hours, and the ride from the center of Stockholm to Kista Centrum takes 15 minutes. From Kista Centrum you can walk to Electrum in about 10 minutes. Here is a map showing how to get from the Kista Centrum underground station to Electrum:
Alternately, take the commuter train to Helenelund station. The trains go every 30 minutes, some extra trains during rush hours. From Helenelund you can walk to Electrum in about 15 minutes.
There are also buses to Kista Centrum from other suburbs to the north and west of Stockholm, and direct airport buses every 30 minutes to and from Arlanda airport. If you arrive at the Arlanda Airport and plan to take the airport bus (buses leaves every 30 minutes approximately), take the bus that is going towards "Brommaplan" (this bus will go via Kista). The bus costs SEK 60 (approx. EURO 6, USD 7). You can pay directly on the bus. If you do not have any swedish currency, it is possible to pay with your major credit card (VISA / Mastercard) on the bus.

The conference secretariat will not make any bookings for accommodation - each participant will have to take care of this personally. Hotel rooms typically range from SEK 700 to 1900 (USD 85-230, EURO 70-200) per night for a single room (double rooms cost only slightly more).

There are a few Hotels in close proximity to the conference site, namely Memory Hotel and Mr Chip Hotel (contact and pricing information here). However, these Hotels are not so close to the entertainment that the city has to offer. Moreover, they are quite expensive.

CONFERENCE FEES
The Conference Fee is SEK 3000 (for registration after May 17 1999)
Discounts: Particpants from non-profit organisations (universities, governments, etc.) and members of IFIP pay SEK 1500. As of 4 January 1999, 1 EURO = 9.5 SEK and 1 USD = 8.15 SEK. All payments are requested in SEK. [Currency Converter on the web]
The conference registration fee includes the conference, coffee breaks and lunches, a visit to the WASA museum on Monday at 5 p.m. and proceedings of the conference. The conference registration fees does not include hotel accommodation, transport or the dinner.
SOCIAL EVENT
The social event, a conference dinner on Monday evening, is not included in the conference fees. The fees is SEK 350.
