Linux server
Our server triton.dsv.su.se has the operating system Debian GNU/Linux and is accessible for the students and staff at DSV. To connect to triton please use any of these techniques:
SSH
The best way to access triton is to use an SSH client (SSH version 2). Microsoft Windows users can for example use the PuTTY SSH client. You can find PuTTY at http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/ or via our web download page. Linux users can install an SSH client from http://www.openssh.org.
You can run graphical programs on triton which displays the graphical picture on your local pc's screen. If you are using the ssh command then use the -X option to allow graphics according to the X protocol. If you are using PuTTY then choose Tunnel and then mark Enable X11-forwarding.
If you don't have an SSH client on your pc then you can use an applet which is an SSH client via this web page http://dsv.su.se/datorer/linux/mindterm.html.
VNC
You can also access triton with a VNC client. VNC stands for Virtual Network Computing. Tightvncviewer is a client which you can fetch from http://www.tightvnc.org/. Using VNC you can use triton in full graphical mode. You can use a desktop environment, such as GNOME, as in the pc rooms at floors 4 and 5. For better performance it is recommended to use a more lightweight window manager, for example IveVM.
Telnet
If you have Kerberos installed on your pc then you can get a Kerberos ticket for your user instance in the DSV.SU.SE realm and then access triton with Kerberos telnet (Ktelnet). Using ordinary telnet which sends the password in clear text is not possible any more.
