Get started with DSV's computer facilities

The information below is only valid for DSV students registered before the autumn 2011 term. New students will get an university account which is valid for all DSV systems. The e-mail will be handled by Stockholm university. You will get a name@students.su.se e-mail address.

Accounts

When you photograph for a Passing card at DSV you receive a computer user name with password for Windows,  Kerberos, and FirstClass. The Kerberos account is used for Daisy, Linux, e-mail, and the wireless network. The user name and password are the same for all three accounts. You receive information about your accounts at the student affairs office. If there is a problem with your accounts, please contact DSV IT unit.

Passwords

It is important to have a good password. You can find information about passwords here.

Operating systems

DSV has a number of computer rooms with desktop personal computers. These computers can be started in either MS Windows or Linux. Read more about how to choose operating system here!

E-mail

At DSV there are two types of e-mail accounts.

The first one is the regular e-mail account which is your user name followed by "@dsv.su.se" (for example if your user name is kalle-k the your e-mail address is kalle-k@dsv.su.se).

There are several ways to read and write such e-mail:

  • DSV's webmail
  • Text-based e-mail client Alpine
  • Mozilla Thunderbird or similar e-mail client

The second e-mail account is your FirstClass account (FC account). Your FC account address is your user name followed by "@fc.dsv.su.se".
You can access your FC account through a FirstClass client (available in both Windows and Linux at DSV), or through the FirstClass web interface.

These two accounts are not in any way connected to each other. There is more information about configuring and accessing your e-mail accounts here.

Printers

Here you can find information on how to use the printers from Windows and from Linux.
