Master's Programme in Strategic IT Management
Are you interested in leadership and management?
This programme empowers you to work with information technology (IT) as a tool to address management issues at a strategic level. The programme is designed for students with a Bachelor degree in either business administration or computer and systems sciences (e.g., computer science, system science, informatics, information systems, etc.).
Based on modern IT new forms of organizations such as networks and virtual organizations and meeting places have emerged. To be able to develop and maintain the efficient use of scarce resources now and in the future, deep and up-to-date knowledge of information systems and organizations is necessary. Therefore, the programme combines a business administration approach to effective management and organizations with information technology’s potential to manage modern organizations.
The programme takes place in two departments at Stockholm University:
School of Business (FEK)
Department of Computer and Systems Sciences (DSV)
Career
Graduates can work as a business analysts or researchers, IT consultants or management consultants, strategic planners or other positions related both to IT and management. Graduates may also enter Ph.D. programmes to pursue a research career.
Programme outline
The programme starts in different ways depending on your background. If you have a major in business administration you begin with a course in computer and systems sciences and vice versa.
After this course both student groups join to take courses dealing with issues relevant for strategic IT management. During the second year, two specialization tracks are offered.
Regardless of the major in your Bachelor degree you can either select a computer and systems sciences or a business administration focus. Each specialization track consists of a variety of courses on specific topics in that area from which you compose your own combination. The fourth and final semester consists of writing a master’s thesis.
Qualification requirement
Bachelor degree in business administration or computer and systems sciences (e.g., computer science, system science, informatics, information systems, etc.).
Language proficiency
Swedish upper secondary school course English B or:
- IELTS (International English Language Testing Service)- Academic Module: Overall minimum score of 6.5 (with no section below 5.5).
- TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language)
- Paper Based: Overall minimum score of 575 (with minimum score 4.5 in the written test)
- Internet based : Overall minimum score of 90 (with minimum score 20 in the written test)
- University of Cambridge and Oxford: Certificate in Advanced English or Diploma of English Studies

If you are a computer science student and you want to learn more about the business world, then this programme allows you to get two different perspectives. If you are business administration student and you want to develop some IT skills, then this programme provides you with in-depth knowledge of ICT.
