Aim

The aim of my study is to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of research and project supervision process through the use of Information technology in Sri Lankan higher education institutions.

Focus

The focus can be divided in to three sections.
1)    Explore the issues in theses supervision process.
2)    Understand the root courses for issues.
3)    Develop an ICT enabled information system framework to overcome root courses.

The study mainly focuses on the bachelor and master level programs in Sri Lankan universities. Sweden, Rwanda and South African experiences and current systems will be studied as a part of the study.

The success of the thesis process depends on supervisors, students and supervision system and affect by various factors. Hence, the identification of issues, understand root causes and kernel theories, selection of issues, and the evaluations of the effect of the solution will be focused during this research.

Challenges

Thesis process is a very complex process and the research problem is a wicked problem. The first challenge is exploring issues in thesis supervision process. The nature of the relationship between students and lectures in Sri Lanka is very special and, hence it is very difficult to collect an unbiased data from students.  Another challenge is compare the progress after implementing the solution.

Methods

Design science research methodology will be followed in this study. Observations, survey, and interviews will be used to collect data. Both, quantitative and qualitative data analysis methods will use in the data analysis phase.

Results

According to the focus of the study results are,
1)    List of issues in the theses supervision process
2)    Root courses of the issues
3)    An ICT enable information system framework to improve the thesis supervision process.
