Business Process Management and Enterprise Modeling

Business Process Management studies how business processes can be supported and managed through the use of Information Technology. Our research within Business Process Management has focused on process language analysis, methods for business process design, and open source implementations of process languages. Applications range from the use of social software in BPM to the design of processes for open social services.

Our research within Enterprise Modeling (EM) focuses on modeling organizational aspects such as goals, rules, actors, processes and information system requirements in an integrated way. A key aspect in EM is a participatory way of working which helps consolidating various stakeholder views into a shared organizational design - enterprise model. Following these principles we have developed an EM approach called EKD - Enterprise Knowledge Development.

We have also worked extensively on EM support for business and IT alignment, balanced scorecard development, and requirements engineering.

Applications of EM range from the analysis of organizational strategies, new product and service design, business reengineering, distributed value network design, business process standardization, identifying knowledge assets, as well as information system requirements elicitation.  We have applied EM in various sectors, e.g.  health care, municipalities, education, automotive, airlines, tourism, electricity supply and energy efficiency.
