Information and Communication Technology for Development (ICT4D) is the application of ICT for socio-economic development in a broad sense. As such it is an interdisciplinary field combining ICT with social sciences, legal issues, etc. In our ICT4D master’s programme the focus is on the specific needs and problems in developing countries.
There is a steadily growing demand in the developing world for individuals skilled in the use of technology and deployment of information systems and the management of information, but also knowledge on hardware and software levels, but also knowledge on open source software, e-Democracy, policies to decrease the gender inequality in Internet usage, and strategies to establish certification authorities for the growth of the e-business environment.
The master programme in ICT for development at the Department of Computer and Systems Sciences (DSV) will develop your skills and knowledge needed to address these issues in developing countries. In addition to a solid background in computer and systems sciences the programme includes necessary social science courses. The programme will address some of the prominent few themes in ICT4D, among these e-learning, e-health, and e-governance.
