Our guests are visiting the department to participate in Geoffrey Karokola’s PhD dissertation “A Framework for Securing e-Government Services. The Case of Tanzania” on Tuesday December 11, 2012 at 15 – 17 in hall C, Forum 100, Isafjordsgatan 39.

Professor Dr MM Eloff has been a researcher and university teacher in computer and information security for more than 20 years. In 2009 she became a full professor in the School of Computing in UNISA, and since 2012 she is the chief researcher at UNISA Institute of Corporate Citizenship. She has been a member of the College of Science, Engineering and Technology Executive and Research Committee and in 2010 she received the UNISA Women in Research Award for Research Leadership. 2005 – 2007 she served as the South African representative on ISO (the International Standards Organisation) for computer and information security standards. She is deputy chair of the UNISA Employment Disability Forum, a council member of The Independent Living Centre for Disabled Persons in South Africa as well as a member of the National Council for Persons with Physical Disabilities in South Africa. Professor Dr. Jan Eloff presented in 1983 one of his first research papers in Stockholm at the very first international conference on information security, IFIP-TC11-SEC’83. 1988 he became a professor in Computer Science at the Rand Afrikaans University, RAU, and later at the University of Pretoria, UP, where he also has been Head of the Department of Computer Science. Today he is professor extraordinaire at UP and Research Director of SAP Research Pretoria. He has vast experiences with academic research and education as well as with industrial research and developments in computer and information security, and is dedicated to ICT4D in Africa. In addition to serving on research committees and developments, he launched a community service project in the UP Department of Computer Science aimed at transferring ICT-knowledge to learners in rural and poor communities. He has been the president of the South African Institute of Computer Scientists and Information Technologists, a member of the council for Natural Scientists of South Africa, a full member of the Computer Society of South Africa, and an evaluated researcher from the National Research Foundation. He holds an appointment as guest professor at the International Institute of Management in Telecommunications at the University of Fribourg, Switzerland. Website http://www.cs.up.ac.za/cs/eloff/
