In November the two-day conference Global Forum 2012: Shaping a connected digital future took part at Grand Hotel in Stockholm. Over 300 participants from 35 countries visited the conference dedicated to the Economic, Political, Social and Societal issues related to the sucessful evolution of the Information Society.

DSV sponsored the conference and also had in total five participants during the conference. DSV’s student union DISK assisted the Global Forum with talented students that managed blogs, interviews, and film recording that made this event memorable.

Clinical Text Mining for Health Care

Professor Hercules Dalianis from DSV spoke about “Clinical Text Mining for Health Care Managers using aggregated data in the Cloud”, and obtained many questions from the audience in the panel.

DSV had also a popular E-government booth where many participants visited Vasilis Koulolias, Director, at DSV’s center eGovlab, with questions.

Cloud Computing

An interesting session during the conference was about Cloud Computing, where the national laws in some countries do not allow that personal information, for example about patients, are stored outside of the national borders and this give a constraint to Cloud Computing. Another talk presented that the Veneto Region in Italy already has introduced Cloud Computing at 59 hospitals for one joint Electronic Patient Record system.

Sessions focuses on availability

Global Forum was a timely and relevant event. Good combination of general and visionary presentations and use-cases. A case in point is the sessions related to open data and clinical and medical information systems. The sessions during this conference more or less focused on availability and many questions rose, such as who owns one person’s medical records the patient, the specialist’s department, or the hospital? Since, doing business with citizen’s private information is an important issue; we are looking forward to hear more about security (integrity and privacy) during the Global Forum 2013.
