ICDE creates possibilities to develop platforms for large-scale education and examination and to adapt and develop high-quality programs and courses on PhD levels and other target groups. Including establishing a model for running this in university systems in countries with fewer resources to leap-frog their educational systems and reform their general policies as well as their technologies in a cost-efficient way.
The aim is to encourage citizens to become engaged and interdependent citizens within the continent of Africa by providing very cheap access to learning through technology which will open the free movement of knowledge, research, and higher education and strengthen the cooperation between African universities, and extend their partnerships with universities around the world.
ICDE will be an essential component in promoting this through networks and references to educational resources. The technical platforms and administrative support will rely on more than 20 years, intense development at Stockholm University and other institutions. ICDE will also develop a model for how universities should cater to a more cost-efficient dynamical system and new kinds of students that require online education.
In 2017 Love Ekenberg was appointed as the United Nations Unesco Chair for developing a model for large-scale higher education in Southern Africa Development Community countries (SADC).
