Visit to DSV by Taiwanese delegation
Last Tuesday, DSV was visited by a delegation from Taiwan. The purpose was
to prepare for a conference to be held in Taiwan next year.

New dissertation: Computergames as a tool in learning
In a newly published dissertation Mats Wiklund studies different aspects of computer games through a series of empirical studies. One of the studies, where computer games were uses instead of traditional study materia, shows that learning increased.
Stockholm University climbs in world rankings
In The 2010 Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) Stockholm University has climbed nine places since last year. Now, Stockholm University is ranked as no. 79. Starting from 2003, ARWU has been presenting the world top 500 universities annually based on a set of objective indicators and third-party data. US still dominates 2010 list with 8 universities in the top 10 and 54 universities in the top 100.

IBM invites DSV master students to participate the INNOV8 seminar
On September 21, IBM will offer an one-day introductory seminar for DSV master students. The seminar will let the students understand what INNOV8 is and see how Business Process Management and Smart SOA are helping people, companies, and cities work smarter. Due to the limited number of 40 seats, students have to register by email before 15th September.

DSV hosts Nordic Digra – new Nordic game Conference
On August 16 and 17, the Department of Computer and Systems Sciences (DSV) will host the first Nordic Digra – a new Nordic game Conference focusing on games, gaming and gamers. Under the theme "Experiencing Games: Games, Play, and Players”, Nordic Digra will bring together researchers in the Nordic countries that focus on the study of games and gaming, be it on-line, computerised, or in the physical world."

Ready for future cooperation with Chinese industry, universities and colleges
Last week's intensive work at the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai ended on Saturday under the theme "Academic Exchange & Cooperation Stockholm-China”. This resulted in engaged discussions between the Swedish delegation from the Department of Computer and Systems Sciences (DSV) and the Chinese invited guests."

OWASP AppSec Research 2010 Conference
The Information Systems Security section of DSv is co-hosting the European AppSec Conference, which is to be held at the Stockholm University Frescati Campus, 21 to 24 June. OWASP is an international non-profit making organisation that focuses on improving tahat focuses on improving the security of web based application software.

DSV presented innovative research at the World Expo 2010
It was a committed invited audience on 10 June in the VIP section of the Swedish pavilion at World Expo 2010 in Shanghai, when Robert Ramberg, Gustaf Juell-Skielse and Harko Verhagen presented research at the Department of Computer and Systems Sciences (DSV) under the theme "Stockholm ICT Innovations".

Seminar and debate: Security aspects with automated attacks in social networks
Automatisation (i.e. AI) can be used to defend and to attack a social network. Starting at 3 pm, students from the 2009/2010 ICSS program will debate if AI should be permitted to be used in a access control system. Following the debate at 6 pm, Marcus Huber (former ICSS student, now working as a researcher at Secure Business Austria) will present his research on using AI techniques to trick and attack users on social networks, like Facebook.

Department of Computer and Systems Sciences targets China
To strengthen the relations with decision makers in industry and universities in China, the Department of Computer and Systems Sciences (DSV) at Stockholm University will be present during the World Expo 2010 in Shanghai. The activities take place in conjunction with the Swedish Environmental Research Institute, Kista Science City, KTH and Uppsala Municipality and Education, Stockholm. Project manager is Stockholm Business Region.

The GDM track focuses on making informed, elaborated decisions of the strategic use of global resources: offshore, nearshore and onshore. World Expo 2010 in Shanghai
In cooperation with the City of Stockholm the Department of Computer and System Sciences (DSV) will present itself at World Expo 2010 in Shanghai, from june 10–12. DSV will present it´s research and educational programs as well as improve it´s contacts with local ICT-companies. More information will follow shortly.
